Modular COTS Security Architecture

Click to EnlargeSundRy Public Safety's Modular COTS Security Architecture is a result of applying our corporate experience with the defense industry practice of utilizing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products for Command & Control applications to the corrections industry.  The result is a lower cost to implement design with higher reliability and lower maintenance costs.  The PRESTO Security Control System follows the modular architecture and is highly configurable and scalable.  It is a table driven design using Microsoft SQL Server and can support any size facility with distributed control consoles and equipment rooms.  With PRESTO already proven in three installations and COTS products available to build an entire system, the reality of a 100% designed security system when the procurement process starts is here now.  The process offers architects, engineers, owners and contractors a more concise, yet easier method to implement reliable systems.

Security Troubles

It's not uncommon in the facilities that we visit to see just how bad things can get.  Security systems at correctional facilities can easily turn into a patchwork of "ideas" when funding is scarce and the systems are not maintained properly.  Below is a rack we came across in an actual operating facility - pretty scary...

Modular Architecture Advantages

True modular components are totally self contained and can be snapped together to form very large and topographically complex systems without the need for engineering.  And with COTS modules now available, only the quantities, location and routing of the interconnections need to be defined.  This allows a modular security system to be 100% designed and specified in the bid package.  Given the cross couplings of security specifications with other trades, this eliminates trade confusion in bidding, construction and closeout.  Most significantly, it allows all the trade work on all systems to begin simultaneously instead of waiting months for an approved security system design and missing the window to embed conduit in poured concrete.
